Cooked Bird Food for Holiday Parrot Joy

Cooked Bird Food is comforting and nutritious for parrots

Most parrots love cooked bird food regardless of the season.  But, what bird lover can be cooking up a delicious holiday meal and serve their bird dry pellets or seeds?  Warm cooked bird food recipes or even prepared mixes may offer your parrot comfort as it deals with the stresses involved with having a houseful of holiday guests.  After all, warm, moist food is reminiscent of being fed as a chick by mom and dad.

If you don’t really have the time or energy to cook up a nutritional concoction of whole grains, nutritious fruits and veggies, avian vets recommend Crazy Corn Cooked Bird Food, Harrison’s Birdie Bread or even Bird Food Bean Mix.  These cooked bird foods can be prepared and served very quickly, plus you can freeze leftovers for later.  An easy recipe though, if you have a desire to cook for your parrot is our Birdie Holiday Fruit Cake.  People may not love bird bread, but most parrots love this our cooked bird bread and even consider it a treat.

Birdie Holiday Fruit Cake

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes


Preparing Cooked Bird Food:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine Momma’s Birdie Bread, Original Mix with eggs and milk, stirring until mixed with minimal lumps. Fold Tropical Fruit Bird Food, II,   Pine Nuts in the Shell (for medium to large parrots) and Raw Pumpkin Seeds into Momma’s Birdie Bread, mixing well.  Stir in yogurt.Set cooked bird food mixture aside and use 1 tsp. of pure vegetable oil to grease an 8×8 or 9×9 glass baking dish. Pour Cooked Bird Food into dish and bake for 25-35 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.  Test with toothpick.Allow the cooked bird food to cool thoroughly before serving.  Cut into pieces sized appropriately for your bird. Leftovers should be stored in 2-3 days worth of servings in zip style storage bags, removing all air and placed in the freezer. Thaw only as much as can be used in a 2-3 day period of time.
